Most of us have no idea how to read a utility bill without being confused.  It has different categories, different rates for different times and what the heck are these fees all about?  Well, it's kind of designed that..until now.

Let's take a peek at my last one and here are the numbers you want to pay attention to.

Rate - The actual cost of the commodity that you are using, either electricity, natural gas or both.
Volume - The amount of the commodity that you actually use.
Energy Cost - The dollar amount for what you use.
Administration charge - The dollar amount that you pay to have your bill produced.

These amounts are the only part of your bill that you can do something abut and they can make a big difference on the total amount that you pay every month.

This one is pretty straightforward as bills go and possibly the least complicated one that you will see.  Now it's time to deal with the part of the bill that you can actually do something about.  Let's talk about choice.

In many jurisdictions you have a choice on who will supply you with your energy needs and this choice allows you to save your money!

Taking the same bill and comparing it to the same month, the choice becomes very clear.
